Hitch It Hauling

Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Services & Capacity
Q: What types of trailers or items do you haul? A: We specialize in hauling recreational and utility trailers that use a standard ball hitch connection. This includes campers, travel trailers, boats (on trailers), and various utility and equipment trailers.
Q: What is your maximum hauling capacity? A: We are limited to hauling approximately 9,000 lbs (9k) gross trailer weight (GTW) and items requiring a ball hitch connection.
Q: Do you hauling 5th wheel or gooseneck trailers? A: No. Currently, we are limited to ball-hitch style hauling, but we do plan to expand to 5th wheel and gooseneck style in the newr future
Q: Are you licensed and insured? A: Yes. Hitch It Hauling is fully licensed and commercially insured to provide professional hauling services.

Pricing & Billing
Q: How is the hauling cost calculated? A: We use a simple, transparent dual-rate system: we charge $2.50 per loaded mile OR $90.00 per hour, whichever amount is greater for the final service. This ensures fair pricing for both long-distance hauls and short, complex, or time-intensive local jobs.
Q: How do you track the time for the hourly rate? A: The hourly clock begins when we arrive at the pickup location and ends when the trailer is safely unhitched at the destination. It includes time spent on maneuvering, loading, securing the load, and any unforeseen waiting time.
Q: What is the "loaded mile" charge? A: The loaded mile charge covers the distance the trailer is attached and in transport (from the pickup location to the drop-off location).
Q: Do you charge for travel to the pickup site (Deadhead)? A: We offer a 15-mile courtesy buffer from our Somerset, PA base to your pickup location, which is free of charge. Any miles beyond this 15-mile radius are included in the final mileage calculation at the $2.50/mile rate.

Scheduling & Logistics
Q: Where is Hitch It Hauling based, and what is your service area? A: We are based in Somerset, PA. Our primary service area covers South Western Pennsylvania (including the Pittsburgh, Johnstown, and Altoona regions), but we service the entire State of Pennsylvania.
Q: What do I need to prepare before the pickup? A: Please ensure the following:
The trailer tires are properly inflated.
The trailer's lights and brakes are in working order.
All loose items inside the trailer are secured.
The hitch coupling is clear and accessible for a quick hook-up.
Proof of ownership to the camper, trailer, boat, or equipment being hauled.
Proof of current insurance and registration camper, boat, or trailer being hauled.
Current legal photo id that matches the ownership, registration, and insurance of the camper, trailer, or boat being hauled.
Q: What if the trailer has maintenance issues at the time of pickup? A: While we conduct a safety inspection, we are transport providers, not mechanics. If the trailer is deemed unsafe to hauling (e.g., severe tire damage, axle issues, non-functional lights/brakes), we reserve the right to decline the service until repairs are made. Wait time related to assessing these issues would be billed at the $90/hour rate.
